Muse Arrives and Instinct's Two-Week Honeymoon Gets Audited

Meta's Muse landed, and suddenly everyone was grading Instinct on a curve: faster rival, cheaper rival, incumbent rivals. Kevin Rose said Google should just buy it. Meanwhile an agent-to-agent handoff spoiled a surprise party.

What people were saying

Today was less about what Instinct can do and more about how long it gets to keep doing it alone. @JayaGup10 summed up the mood with a list of tools she has cycled through in a few months, including a clean admission that she liked Instinct for exactly one week until Muse shipped. @lizwessel said roughly the same thing, two weeks in and switched, with the caveat that she would hand Google more access than anyone if Google ever bothered to ship an assistant.

@NewcomerMedia framed it as a war and gave Instinct the happy-but-still-a-problem diagnosis: capacity constraints are slowing responses right as Meta's thing feels snappy. @krishnanrohit split the difference. Muse is smoother and available in more places; Instinct is more proactive and digs a little deeper.

The praise

@kevinrose wrote the day's most-quoted post, arguing Google should buy Instinct for the product DNA, with a wistful aside about trying and failing to buy Instagram from inside Google+. @Kimcurrier runs both, with Instinct on calendar, email triage, kids and meal planning, and Muse on social. @capitaltruist got tired of re-asking the same questions, so he had Instinct sign itself up for a docs tool and build its own knowledge base, screenshots included. @negligible_cap likes the per-account email address; @amorriscode likes that there is no UI to hide behind.

The pushback

@aslater made the bear case bluntly: no platform, no proprietary moat, staggering tool-call costs, and three incumbents who can burn money forever. @HarryStebbings relayed a similar pass on the round, reading slowness as a compute-cost tell. @0xrwu raised the opsec version: connecting your primary email to any chief-of-staff agent is asymmetric downside, since email is how account recovery works. @noahsolomon simply found it noisy. And @mattcrv asked Instinct how it compares to Poke and got a sincere pitch for Poke, plus a link.

Notable anecdotes

The agent-to-agent feature produced its first canonical disaster, via @indexsy: a guy asked his Instinct to plan a surprise party, it pinged the girlfriend's Instinct for availability, and her agent told her. Its defense was that it withheld the actual surprise. Relatedly, @zalanigarvit reports his Instinct is now beefing with a friend's Instinct, which he is counting as AGI. @kellyjgreer offered the sharpest one-liner of the day: this is a case study in people valuing personality over absolute quality.
