Instinct, on X

It Learned Your 2FA Codes, and Everyone Had Feelings

Authenticator support landed, which thrilled the people whose dryer warranties got fixed and horrified the people reading the OAuth permissions screen. Meanwhile the Muse comparisons got sharper and the invite-code barter economy reached new heights.

What people were saying

The day had a single load-bearing theme: Instinct can now handle the six-digit code step itself, using the same TOTP standard as your authenticator app. Reactions split cleanly along the line of whether you think of your accounts as things to be used or things to be protected.

@sriramk framed it charitably, calling the auth work genuine product magic while noting the login zoo (passkeys, OTP by text, approve-on-other-device) still has a long way to go. His replies turned into an impromptu working group on what agent-native auth should even look like, with a recurring idea that free access plus approval on critical actions beats 2FA theater.

On the competitive front, @turbahn said he's starting to think Muse is materially better, specifically because it pops a mini browser when it gets stuck instead of stalling. @jakemintz ran identical prompts across Muse, Instinct, Grok Bot and Codex all week and concluded the assistants are the better products but Codex gets to better answers, which he attributes to paid models versus free ones. He would like to pay for more thinking, please.

The praise

@eliweisss had the anecdote of the day: broken dryer, warranty, a photo. Instinct dug the serial and model out of an old email receipt, talked a chat agent into taking a case that was supposedly phone-only, got approval, and booked the repair. @jr_sachdeva described it as a body doubling partner for ADHD tendencies, praising the unprompted check-ins. @Kimcurrier is using it to demolish mom-mode tasks. @martinmignot complained that it's too effective and years of procrastination are now all happening simultaneously.

@_shankarganesh admitted he'd written it off as overhyped and now finds it addicting: fast on texts, fast on voice notes, proactive.

The pushback

@Yuvalhazaz1 wrote the most pointed thread of the day, saying he's bailed on the Google Workspace connection screen three separate times over the permission list, and that adding an authenticator is the industry running full speed away from least privilege. @_orcaman noted this is the sort of thing OpenClaw users were warned off doing, except here it's a feature. @jvrsanch worried about monetization incentives and auditability. @4484 predicted the usual arc: magical week one, burden by week four.

Notable anecdotes

@andrewdsouza asked Instinct to find him a Muse invite code, which he conceded felt insulting, and the replies became a live invite bazaar. @derrickko built Tincan so his Instinct could chat with friends' Muses. @RaniadoesBiz gave it a $100 paper trading account for BTC; early results, in her words, not great. And @surim0n gave his wife an invite right before the Trusted Person network shipped, outcome pending.
