Stripe Rails, $1,300 Months, and a Distillery That Opened Early

Instinct plugged into Stripe Link and disclosed that paying users spend over $1,300 a month through it. The timeline split between agentic-commerce awe, invite begging, privacy worry, and open exhaustion with the entire personal-agent naming convention.

What people were saying

The day had a spine, and the spine was money. @noahrshinn announced a Stripe Link partnership and dropped a number that did most of the work: users who buy things spend over $1,300 a month through the agent. International trips, weekly groceries, yoga classes, ski tuning, car part repairs. @patrickc and @jeff_weinstein amplified from the Stripe side, and @jay_ssh framed it as approval-gated wallet access rather than handing over a card number, which is roughly what @BackseatVC said she wanted after spending $700 in a week using account logins she could rotate.

Running parallel: fatigue. The single most-liked post of the day was @yrechtman rattling off a stream of interchangeable agent names, which everyone recognized instantly, which is itself the joke.

The praise

@huggingpuppy called it everything he wanted from OpenClaw without the technical headache, and notably not in a beta way. @varunkundra got $200 in bogus fees refunded. @grosen reported his agent apparently refusing to let him lose his fantasy league. @zachtratar argued Apple should just buy the thing, which drew the inevitable Dropbox-is-a-feature rebuttal.

The pushback

Reliability wobbled in public. @sahanamantha7 had her agent break, email her to say it was broken, and then had Poke text her about the emails. @DavidPawlan hit the same Poke relay weirdness. @KenWattana got ghosted for forty minutes. @jayyeh noted, drily, that polished onboarding does not create a perfect agent, and that VCs are now discovering bumps the rest of us hit in February.

The deeper objection was about surveillance and unconfirmed actions, raised by @ericabrescia as a genuine question (how much access are people actually granting?) and by @kushagrchitkar as a competitive pitch. @AstasiaMyers offered the least flattering framing of demand: build for sloth.

Notable anecdotes

@mrbenwinn said his agent talked a distillery into opening two hours early for a private tour and tasting, no calls, no emails from him. This was the day's Rorschach test. Meanwhile @puneetiitm tried to send flowers from India and got all the way to checkout before bot protection and dollar-denominated pricing stopped it. Agents are ready; the web is not.
