Instinct, on X

Priced Like Linear, Launched Like A Rumor

Noah Shinn stepped out of stealth and confirmed a $250M round at $2.5B. The timeline immediately put Instinct next to Linear's $100M ARR and asked hard questions about revenue, data, and ads. Also: someone's dad got a ski edit.

What people were saying

Today was the reveal. @noahrshinn introduced himself as the founder, described the product as an agent with no new interface (you text it or call it), and mentioned early users planning cross-country road trips, buying groceries, killing subscriptions, and in one case planning a wedding. Within hours @KateClarkTweets reported the numbers: $350M raised total, a new round at $2.5B, co-led by Index and Benchmark per @sarthakgh. @WSJ, @Techmeme, and @Forbes all ran it, with Forbes noting the valuation was reportedly $500M earlier this month. Five times, in three weeks, which is a rate of change most spreadsheets do not have a cell for.

The pushback

The day's defining tweet was @Austen's side-by-side: Linear at $100M ARR with 177% net revenue retention, and Instinct, invite-only and roughly a week old, both at $2.5B. @rohitdotmittal added Headspace's fire-sale acquisition as a third data point and concluded that valuations and outcomes are not especially correlated. @lanceyyan just asked how.

The sharper critique came from @shellvish, who argued the math only closes if Instinct eventually sells user data, since consumers famously don't pay for AI. @mayamshahh filed a bug in her first thirty seconds, then read the terms and noted how much access the thing has. @safizaq asked the question a lot of people were thinking, which is whether this is simply Poke, and @gm_mertd said the rebrand deserved credit either way.

The praise

Users kept producing receipts. @kenanhsaleh said it checks him into flights and reminds him about reservations he forgot to cancel. @paularambles asked it to remind her to edit her dad's ski videos (specific track, wind noise removed, trimmed) and it offered to just do the edit, which it did. @jbahrdestefano got a physical moved up three months. @apoorv03 and @avikrishna went full lyrical about screens and iPhone moments. Investors @saranormous and @pranavreddy posted their conversion stories.

@chapello offered the meta-read: exclusivity, hype, mystery, and a dash of fear about the data, the best consumer launch since Uber. @akshatag77 predicted it stays free forever and monetizes transactions; @uninsightful took the other side of the bubble takes entirely.

Notable anecdotes

@chongz asked it to find him a girlfriend and reported he is still single, declaring the product unusable. @sfspacesquid claimed it got into Gmail and sent ten emails to a no-contact ex, which is either a joke or the most efficient possible demonstration of agency.
